Darcy Hicks is an artist who specializes in metal leaf and oil paint. She is drawn to anything that reflects aggressive light, using gold, silver and copper leaf to capture the radiance she want us all to notice. She relies on viewers to move themselves around her works in order to experience the transience of light and its effects, and the way life courses through natural forms.
Her experience teaching children has taught her that making art taps into the topics and moments that matter the most to us. Art gives children a tool to communicate which is in their control, and allows them to discover their voices and the feeling of agency. In turn, this feeds the writers and activists inside of them.
Her time is spent painting in her studio, writing, running, and working with teachers and children. She relishes her time with her husband and three hilarious sons.
